School Lunches for the Senses...Supporting Picky Eaters

Writer: Parent's Survival TeamParent's Survival Team

Finding all the right textures, smells, and looks can be hard when it comes to food.

Every individual is so unique in their ways when it comes to the type of food they can handle eating.

Keep in mind this will not work for everyone nor is it a magical list but you can create one that works for your individual. No matter what they like whether it is soft, crunchy, salty, sweet, bold or bland you can use that to your advantage when creating lunches!

Here are some simple and basic lunch suggestions that carry a healthy aspect.

  • Nuts

  • Dried fruit

  • Chopped fruit

  • Yogurts

  • Plain bread or buns

  • Popcorn

  • Granola bars

  • Cheese

  • Meat slices

  • Raw veggies & dip

  • Rice crackers or crackers

  • Naan bread

  • Pasta

  • Chopped meats

  • Hard boiled eggs

  • Peanut butter

  • Soups

  • Beef jerky

  • Muffins

Please remember that not all educational places allow peanuts/nuts and be mindful of this when creating lunches for your individual. If your individual loves these items as much as ours do, one suggestion is to reach out to your educator and ask if there is a place available for lunch times that they can consume them while keeping the environment safe for everyone.
